Finding Online Tutoring Jobs Using General Job Search Engines
Online tutoring jobs on the internet are everywhere! It seems it takes as long to sift through the different sites takes longer than actually finding the job itself.Especially with the general job listing search engines, where each site out does the other with bells and whistles, some useful, and some not so useful. Here are the general job search sites that I found useful.
CareerJet.com
“2,931,617 jobs published in the United States” it’s on the top of their site. That’s a lot of job listings. The page is a pretty clean setting, and you can search listings by industry, location and world wide. And of course your recent searches for online tutoring jobs are saved.OK it has the standard uploadable cover letter, resume, alerts, and saved searches and jobs. So, I wondered how many of those 2,931,617 listings were tutoring jobs? A simple search for “tutor” worldwide returned 4,937 listings. And the same search in the United States came back with 859 listings. The thing I like about this site is its simplicity. A very clean and uncluttered layout. But with it’s simplicity, you won't get the bells and whistles of the other sites. This is best suited for people who aren’t interested in the other gadgets and just want to search for online tutoring jobs only. Try it out here:
Monster.com
If you're really serious about finding online tutoring jobs, don't just visit these sites, but register with them as well. The more interaction, the better, and of course, the more helpful these site become.
Once you supply a e-mail address and create a password, you can create a profile. The profile lets you tell employers about yourself, work experience, education and certifications and career goals. You can also upload your picture. You can also upload, create or copy and paste your resume or even have one of their professional resume writers write a resume for you (for a fee). They also have a template you can use to create your cover letter. As far as the online tutorimg job listings, you can search or browse for jobs, save your searches and save jobs that you’re interested in. They even have a history of jobs you have applied for. Monster also has some cool tools. I won’t list them all but I do have a favorite. The Career Benchmarking Tool. This took about 10 minutes to answer a series of questions that compares your answers to others in the same or similar profession. What’s interesting about this is that after each set of questions answered, the tool gives you a synopsis of where you fit in the group. It tells you where you stand in comparison to a similar group in areas such as salary, job satisfaction and work life balance. This can be an eye opener if you either don’t like your present job, or aren’t getting paid enough for it. If you have an online tutoring job, try it ot to see where you stand. Monster also has an “advice” tab which is a collection of articles about salaries, interviewing, career development and job hunting strategies. Finally, I did a sample nationwide search for “tutors” and came up with 24 matches. Of course you can also opt in for their notifications and e-mail alerts. All in all, a very useful and helpful site.
Careerbuilder.com
Another general job search engine is Careerbuilder.com. Carrerbuilder has many of the same types of features as Monster, such as uploading a resume or creating one, and having it evaluated for free, showing saved searches and saved jobs. They also have a cover letter builder and an advice and resource center.Once you create a profile, you can go to “My CareerBuilder” and view the tutoring jobs that you recently looked at, as well as view a listing of off line and online tutoring jobs that careerbuilder recommend for you (based on your profile information). You can also view your saved tutoring jobs, and of course search for new tutoring jobs. You can also see who has viewed your resume, which can lead to interesting information. Careerbuilder also has an opt in e-mail or text alert to your phone for jobs that fit your settings...pretty cool. A simple search for “tutor” resulted in 671 listings. I intentionally left the “location” blank in hopes it would give me a national listing, and it did. But once it came up with the list, it breaks it down for you by either company, city or state, and how many tutoring jobs there are in each category. Careerbuilder advertises itself as the largest job search, employment and career site online, and they seem to be able to back it up with their listings.
Simplyhired.com
Now here’s another general job search engine that I really like. Once you’ve registered with an e-mail address and a password, your online tutoring job search is on!
You get a “Job tab” where you can store notes on the tutoring jobs that you’ve saved. It’s really easy to start getting your different tutoring jobs confused when you do an all out blitz for a job search.Of course you can also save your searches and get e-mail alerts when new tutoring jobs are posted. And if you don’t feel like always getting e-mails, you can also get your alerts in an RSS feed. You can search for your tutoring jobs by keywords, and by location if you’re only interested in working in one geographic location. They also have a few neat little tools. One is the “Job-a-matic” which I will be putting on this site in the near future. It lets you search their database without ever leaving my site...pretty cool. They also allow you to track trends in the industry. Are online tutoring jobs on the rise, or are they on the way down? Good information to know. There’s also a salary calculator and forums to participate in, and again, I did a simple search for “tutor” and found 2,257 tutoring jobs listings!
