Finding Online Teaching Jobs at Tutor Specific Job Sites

These are tutoring and online teaching jobs web sites that are looking for tutors and teachers to hire for their own tutoring service. This means the tutoring jobs they list are for their company only (for the most part). Let’s take a look at a few.

Tutor.com

One source for online teaching jobs that I like is tutor.com. Tutor.com advertises themselves as the "#1 online homework help and tutoring service" with over 3 million tutoring sessions completed. They have tutors available 24/7 for just about any educational need you can think of, and thus, this is a good site for finding online teaching jobs.

What’s really cool about tutor.com from a client perspective, is the availability of tutors for just about any reason.

Are you studying for a test and get stuck? Were you preparing for a history presentation and getting your dates confused? Do you have math homework due tomorrow morning, and just can't figure out the last problem? Just get online, purchase some tutoring time and your problems are solved.

I love their tagline..."you get stuck...you get a tutor...you get help...you get on with your life." How great is that?

As a side note, for parents with kids in college, this would be a great account to set up so they can get help at any time. . . but back to online teaching jobs…

Of course the 24/7 availability of tutors probably means your availability is of high importance when you apply for a job, but in exchange for your availability, tutor.com provides all kinds of insurance, paid vacations, gym membership reimbursement and unlimited free online tutoring for family members if you work for them as a full time tutor.

One thing to remember. Just because you are searching for an online tutoring job, doesn't mean you shouldn't seek the standard benefits that offline jobs provide. Keep benefits in mind!

As I write this, there is a waiting list for tutor hiring, but you might as well get on the list...online teaching jobs become available without warning. Look on the top of their homepage and click the "Our Tutors" tab then the "become a tutor" tab.

TutorVista.com

Another popular site for online teaching jobs is TutorVista.com. TutorVista is an online tutoring company that works as a "tutor broker" so to speak. They hire tutors, and match the tutors with students.

Their services are also available 24/7 and are provided over the internet by use of a high speed internet connection, headset (or speakers) with microphone and a virtual whiteboard that allows tutors to visually communicate with their students.

They also have an instant messaging system between their tutor and student so they can communicate in writing too.

Although the two news clips I viewed on their website seem to suggest that their tutors are from India, I didn't see anything that would preclude a tutor from any other country to apply.

Tutor Vista provides approximately 35 hours of training over 7 days for new tutors, and you can apply for online teaching jobs on their website. Look at the bottom of the webpage under "teaching jobs" to leave contact information.

TutorNation.com

At TutorNation.com, tutors register for a sliding scale fee to be a member of their list of tutors. Clients, or students come to the site and select whether they are looking for online tutoring, e-mail tutoring, in person tutoring or a combination of everything. The client then selects a discipline, subject and state or province then click “submit” and a page with available tutors pop up.

In essence, this site allows tutors to list their services (for a fee). This isn't so much a search for online teaching jobs, but rather an inclusion into a listing so potential clients can find you.

Tutors list whether they are willing to travel, are certified, will do e-mail tutoring or online tutoring. Some tutors post their rates, and others are on a case by case basis. The client then contacts the tutor to explain their needs and make arrangements for tutoring and price.

It appears that the student doesn’t have to pay any membership fees, just the fees for tutoring. This is different from the general job search engines because here, the client reviews the tutors listings and qualifications and decides who they want to hire as a tutor. The tutor isn’t guaranteed a job, but gets a listing.

Their model seems to fit freelancers more, and is a great way for tutors who want to keep a measure of independence, to get work.

SchoolSpring.com

If you’re a tutor and also a teacher or school administrator, SchoolSpring.com gives a little wider listing of available online teaching jobs for educators. SchoolSpring searches the net for education related job postings and lists them in one place.

Along with the school teachers and administrators, there are listings for off line and online tutoring jobs.

You can even search without registering, but I always think you should register at web sites that you find helpful. I know when I find a site I like, I generally end up going back.

You can search for off line or online jobs by location, category, grade level and type of job. I like this site because I like sites that make things easier for people searching the net. And sites what consolidate information makes life easier for everyone.

Registration is free, but SchoolSpring Plus costs $40.00 per year and allows you to apply online for any job in the world!

Using SchoolSpring Plus, you complete the online portfolio, and SchoolSpring will transmit professionally formatted application packages to the employer of your choice, even if they aren’t listed on SchoolSpring.

You just provide the contact information, and they do the rest. Could finding and applying for online teaching jobs get any easier?

When you’re searching for online teaching jobs, you just want to get the applications out as quickly as possible,. Who wants to do all the letters, resumes, etc. over and over.

A search on SchoolSpring, under “tutor” brought back 116 tutoring jobs listed nation wide.
