So, what can Tutor Trend do for you?

Well, that depends on the reason you're here. If you're a tutor looking for employment opportunities, this site's for you! If you're thinking about buying a tutoring franchise or starting one from scratch, this site's for you!

If you're a parent wondering how supplemental educational can help your kids, this site's for you! And if you're a teacher or school administrator, private supplemental education services can make you and your school look even better.

boy with globe”style=

I have some personal, hands-on experience in all of these different areas, and I'll share my experience and research with you on this site. But first let me tell you what this site is about, and what it isn't about.

This site is a "hub". A place where both consumers and providers of tutoring services can come and exchange ideas about the supplemental education industry.

I've done the preliminary research for you so that no matter what the reason for your visit, you'll be better off for visiting. I've also reviewed, edited and compiled information to help make your time here more efficient and effective.

This site isn't an egg-head forum that none of us could read or understand. Instead, it's a plain language, common sense, "let's do what works" kind of website.

For tutors, I've reviewed, edited and consolidated information from numerous top websites to help you find resources you can truly use in your business.

I've also researched compensation and salary trends so you can make sure your fees are in line with the industry averages. And, if you're looking for a job, I've reviewed some job search engines and websites for you.

For entreprenuers searching for a small business idea, I'll discuss different tutoring business models and franchises, as well as the costs and personality types that best fit each model.

For parents, I've reviewed and consolidated both free and fee based online resources to save you time in finding the best tutoring solution for your kids. I also discuss questions that every parent must ask before signing a contract for services.

For school administrators, I'll give you some insight into what parents are thinking when they decide to go to private educational companies (and why this is a great time to open up the lines of communication with parents).

I also generally cover three major areas of tutoring needs: math, reading and (for older kids) preparation for college admission.

I've also included resources for homeschooling, along with the pros and cons for those considering that option, and finally a section about talking to your kids...imagine that...and they really can talk!

So, let me share some personal information about myself and my ideas before we begin. I'm a practicing attorney (that means I received 19 years of formal education before I became an attorney...how time flies).

Since graduation, I've practiced law for over 20 years (man I'm getting old!). I started my own tutoring company about five years ago because I felt my community really needed one. I've taught at a local university for the past eight years, and this gave me tremenously valuable insight into teaching and learning.

I'm a firm believer that we all learn differently. I've included some thoughts about different studying techniques and methods. For instance, I'm more visual and kinesthetic, and when I study, I need either absolute quiet or classical music.

I cannot concentrate when there are lyrics in the music. I've seen kids study with rap music blaring, sitting upside down on a chair, texting and drinking a coke (it seemed to work for him).

Remember, the study environment that works for your kids may not be the one that makes sense to you.

On a personal note, my parents were amazed to learn that I couldn't multiply when I was in the 8th grade. I know my dad wondered if I couldn't read as well, but that's a different story.

Somehow I had fallen through the cracks of public education. To make up for my multiplying deficit, I learned to add real fast. It was my way of masking a problem that eventually caught up with me.

My experience also gave me a severe case of math anxiety that I carried throughout most of my teen years. I hated math, avoided math like the plague.

My Mom's solution? She taped the multiplication table in front of the commode, next to my bed, on my dining table place mat...the list goes on. It worked. Thanks Mom! So, we'll talk about math anxiety and math in general too.

And just as I had problems with math, I see kids every day who can't read at grade level. If you think of the most fundamental element of early education, it's reading.

On this site, I've reviewed and condensed various online resources that target reading problems with kids as well as teens and adults.

I've also included a revealing interview I conducted with a reading specialist who I've seen work miracles with young readers.

I hope this gives hope to anyone who either believes they cannot read, or feels it's too late to learn.

So, what can Tutor Trend do for you? Lots! So sit back, pour a cup of coffee, take your shoes off, get comfortable and let's talk about what you're looking for. __________________________________________________________________
