About Me
My name is Dan Uechi. I’m a licensed, and practicing attorney in Texas for over twenty three years. I was a prosecutor for a few years, but most of my career has been devoted to criminal defense work. I’m a product of public schools, and a true believer in life long learning.
Why A Tutoring Site?
So why did I start a website about tutoring and education? Good question. About five years ago, I decided to take a temporary sabbatical from the practice of law to pursue something that has always been near and dear to my heart: education.
I had already been teaching at a local university, when I decided to start a tutoring service. I wanted to provide a service for kids and their parents who believed in education. People who wanted a brighter future for their children, and felt, as I did, that education is a cornerstone to that goal.
The Journey Begins...
I partnered with a former School Board Member who understood how the local schools worked, and we began a journey to better our community through supplemental education. We began with about three tutors, and my partner’s son as our first client. We learned a lot through the years, we made mistakes, we celebrated victories, and we continue to feel the thrill of every child who comes into our care, and finds success.
Our business grew. We have a rotating list of over thirty tutors, and our student list gets larger every year. We moved our business to a larger facility, and added a variety of other services, all of which have an educational component.
But Something was Still Missing.
Tutoring isn’t cheap. As we grew, we noticed that our services were mostly used by upper middle class families, who had the discretional income to help their children succeed in school. We also noticed a growing number of children being left behind because their families couldn’t afford our help.
To help fill this gap, I began researching the internet for free or low cost materials that parents could use to help their own kids. As I accumulated more materials and information from a growing number of sites, I realized that I needed a more efficient way to provide this information to parents who truly needed it for their kids.
It then became clear that this information could be beneficial to anyone either seeking or providing tutoring services. Then came an epiphany that I could provide information to tutors, parents, students and schools in an attempt for all parties to better understand the role of supplemental education. I wanted everyone to understand what the other parties are seeking, so that there would be less misunderstanding about the role of tutoring in our modern society.
Now, being an internet novice, I needed to figure out how to build a website. I made a couple of attempts with low cost, hosting companies who provided a few pages of “fill in the blank” forms, and I was on the internet…or so I thought.
By shear luck, I stumbled across an all in one website builder that made sense to me. If you’re interested in creating your own website, I strongly recommend you

So, as a part of my new five year plan, I’ve decided to attempt to spread the wealth. Along with this website, I’m in the process of starting a non profit corporation that will provide tutoring for children in our community whose families can’t afford our “for profit” tutoring services.
As this site grows, I hope to provide more and more relevant information for people looking for solutions to their tutoring needs. Whether you’re a tutor, parent, student or just a curious observer, my wish is that this site will make your life just a little easier, more hopeful or just more focused and directed.
